April Fools!

I cant remember all the April Fool tricks we played on my father. They were involved, lenghty, and hilarious- at least to everyone but my father. This picture is not one of them. Its a picture I took in 1971 in the Sam Houston National Forest outside of Huntsville. I was going to college there to be a photographer? or a philosopher? and my family came to visit me. I'm not really that tall- but i was that skinny! I had a 4x5 checked out with a 47mm lens. I wish I had the negative, all thats left is this one print. For someone who has been taking pictures the better part of my life I have precious few of my family. I guess it wasn't important to me. They are now. I dont restore the print, take away the creases, the spots to remind me that you can't change the past. I wouldn't undo the practical jokes on April Fools either but I do wish I could still play them on my father.

Left on the Shed Door

a few weeks ago by my daughter. I thought it was an original heart, cut out not just solid- so when she asked me what i thought i commented on its originallity and told her i liked it. then she said no i mean did you like what it said? i didnt realize there was anything written on it. The more you look and listen the better it gets!

Outside the Caverns

Used to be the first thing people would do when they got out of the Caverns was light up, one form of pollution- not as many smoke now but the need to call someone on a cell-phone has taken over, another type of pollution.

See I Knew

I was fat, and my stomach was big..... but that little kid had it ALL out of perspective. Looking down my body, over my stomach, while flat on my back( and yes I have shorts on) Now if it was as big as that kid drew you couldnt see my feet! So there, another reason to prefer photography over drawing!

I Knew I Needed Haircut

I was asked by my daughters teacher to come talk with her second grade class about photography. I worked for months on my lecture, waiting for the call that IT WAS TIME! Then my wife said- " You know that they really dont want you to TALK, dont you?"

So I dramatically reworked my presentation, turned it heavy to photographs and experiments like producing photograms and taking polaroid pictures!

I had a great time and I'm pretty sure they did as well, judging from the sheaf of thank you notes. I got a new perspective on me, and seem to have lost my appetite as well!

If you want I will come deliver the lecture they didn't recieve to you or your group! It's not too much over three and a half hours! But you have to promise not to give me any thank you drawings!
